Unless you have been living under a rock, or just haven’t looked on the interwebs today, you probably know that Apple had its conference today and announced, you guessed it the iPhone 5.
Back in July we reported on rumors that the new iPhone would have a larger display, well guess what those rumors were right on point. The new iPhones’ display is now 4 inches. Making the phone taller but not wider. Apple says that decision was made to make the phone still feel nice in the hands. The new iPhone will be available in stores on September 21st.
As far as improvements over the 4S there wasn’t really much. There are some camera upgrades that include panorama mode and better pictures in low lighting. (Pretty standard features in any smartphone released now). Also FaceTime over cellular networks, finally and Facetime HD. Of course we have a new processor chip the A6 making the phone snappy though out its core OS and powering some “console quality” games. Another big change in the iPhone 5 compared to the 4S is the introduction of the new dock connector which Apple dubbed Lightning. Meaning all the cords and accessories you have for any of your current apple products will need and adapter. Which Apple has not released the pricing for yet. Don’t you just wish Apple would use microUSB already, like everyone eles.
The new iPhone wasn’t the only thing on show and tell today. Also unveiled was a new ipod touch gracing a much slimmer body and an increased screen size to 4 inches. The new touch will also be getting a bump in the camera department, including a front facing camera and the ability to use FaceTime HD. Siri will also be available on the new touch. It’ll be available in 32 GB and 64 GB capacities for $299 and $399 respectively.
One of the cooler announcements’ in my opinion was the new ipod nano. The 7th generation of nano changes things up a bit. The re-design almost making the nano look like a mini iphone of sorts. Also the update to the product line brings an FM radio on board with the ability to pause live radio. The new nano will be available in 16 GB for $149 and in 7 different colors.
All the mentioned products will all come with a new set of re-designed earbuds with a new name of earpods. I am really really glad they have changed the design of those horrible earbuds. So there you have it a lot news coming out of today’s conference. Sound off in the comments and let me know if you’ll be picking up the new iPhone or any other newly announced iProducts.
